Recipe: Italian Bread

Remember how we talked about indulging, etc? Well, bread is one of my vices. I'm a sucker for fresh, warm bread. Have you ever had the spinach and onion bread-sticks at DePalma's? Heaven I tell you, heaven. (Speaking of, I must find a similar recipe and experiment...next post.)

I wanted to break out my bread machine because I haven't used it in a while. I seriously suggest for anyone who loves fresh bread to get a bread machine. I love mine. It's so incredibly easy. You just put the ingredients in, pick your settings (wait 4 hours) and voila! You have fresh homemade bread!

I did a mixture of two recipes for this bread and added a little twist of my own (What is my problem with following recipe directions? Eh.)

-1 1/4 cup water
-1 1/2 Tbsp Olive Oil
-1 tsp Salt
-3 1/2 cup Bread Flour (I used Gold Medal)
-2 tsp Sugar (Splenda)
-1 tsp Dried Basil
-1 tsp Dried Oregano
-1 tsp Garlic Powder
-2 tsp Active Dry Yeast
-1/4 cup Mozzarella Cheese or Parmesan

-Follow your bread machine instructions as to whether you should put dry or wet ingredients first. For mine, I put the wet ingredients first, then dry, then I make a well for the yeast and put it in.
-Make sure that the yeast never comes in contact with any of the wet ingredients!
-I put this on my 'French' setting and a medium crust. It took about 3.5 hours to bake.

The house smells so good while it is cooking!!

I taught cycle at 5:30AM this morning and I'm teaching again in an hour! Burnin' those calories! I may need to make more bread! ;)
